If your vehicle is a lemon covered by the California lemon law, you have a choice between either a refund or a new replacement vehicle.
A refund includes: the down payment, monthly payments already paid, the payoff balance on the loan or lease, taxes, registration, and license fees, and reasonable repair, towing, and rental car costs. The manufacturer gets a mileage offset for your use of the vehicle from the time of delivery to the time of the first repair. To get a refund, you must return the lemon vehicle.
A replacement vehicle is the second option. You are entitled to a vehicle of comparable make and model, from the dealer's new stock, after you return the old vehicle.
Contact a consumer attorney first before attempting to return a lemon vehicle on your own. The car is evidence, and you will probably need legal assistance to get a proper refund or replacement.
